When I was tucking Carter in he asked (as he often does) if I would snuggle by him… since if I did that every night I'd fall asleep and get nothing done, I told him (as I often do) that I couldn't, but that I would come snuggle by him when my work was done. Then he said, "Can you just snuggle by me for 20 seconds?" That sounded reasonable, so I sat on his bed and rubbed his back and started counting…
And it was amazing what that 20 seconds did for my perspective of the day, of this darling boy who won't be in star wars pjs with beginning readers and every baseball trophy he owns on his headboard for long, and of my role as his mother.
I think I should stop for 20 seconds here and there more often.
