Halloween greetings from our Ninjago ninja, little pumpkin, "military guy", and baby bumblebee… all of whom were too excited to trick or treat to get a picture where one of them wasn't moving.

It was a little nostalgic thinking this would be our last trick or treating here!  It's been a good run.  We'll especially miss the bonfire neighbors who give out the drinks – they are the first thing Emma and Carter consume every year.  (Nate and I laughed, remembering the first year we lived here and wouldn't let our kids drink them… 🙂

  • IMG_0571That's right, folks – everyone cleaned out their own pumpkins this year.  And nobody cried.  It was a pretty good Sunday evening – and everyone was happy with their pumpkins (which was good, because they all had very distinct visions for the carving.)

While everyone was disappointed that the ward party wasn't a trunk or treat, everyone ended up enjoying themselves.  I finally figured out the way to enjoy a ward potluck – feed everyone, including myself, before.  Here are the troops after the party, when they should have been headed to bed but their mom made them take a picture.

Perhaps my text to Nate  during game 6 says it all:

"11:32 pm.  Top of the 11th.   I've fallen asleep twice…  At least one of us is up way past our bedtime."

and, because I am such a nice mom (and probably not such a good one), the next night for game 7:

I couldn't have watched the world series with a bigger (or happier) fan.

  • IMG_0548Carter woke up this morning not wanting to go to preschool.  He was pulling out all sorts of excuses… and I couldn't figure out why, he has really enjoyed preschool lately.  It was their Halloween party day – what's not fun about that?  Turns out the big deal was that his buddy Max was going to dress up as a shark.

He ended up going (not wearing the hat for his costume, which sort of made it look like he was just wearing really big camo pants) and loving it.  (Max hardly wore the shark suit at all, and ended up being "a nice shark" even when he did wear it.  Imagine that.)

  • We had a fantastic 4 day weekend!  Without school, or soccer, we:

    IMG_0489

    made Halloween sugar cookies

    IMG_0491
created a multi-animal house (all Emma, and yes, I had to refill the printer with paper)

Had the 2011 Neighborhood World Series

built the last 49th Ln. leaf fort (sniff, sniff)

And took a trip to the library – and then Emma made Carter a 100-book challenge log of his own.  It was a wonderful weekend filled with good weather and happy kids!

  • IMG_0478So hungry she couldn't fall asleep – and then, once fed, so tired she couldn't wait for me to rinse out her bowl and spoon, put them in the dishwasher, and get her out of her seat.  Poor (adorable) little thing!

  • It really is weird having Zach and Emma gone all day long!  They are loving school though.  Highlights from this week -

Seeing Emma's fall tree on display at P/T conferences (2nd from the left on the top row) – our little artist!

And Zach getting his 100-step medal (and red folder) for the 100 book challenge they are doing at their school this year.  Way to go, Zach!

Found these when I was picking up the basement tonight… new books by Emma.  I can't wait for her to read me the one on the right…  it sounds fabulous.

Our Friday afternoon adventure was perfectly described by Zach as we climbed into the car to head home:
"That was really cold, but really fun!"

Nate got some great pictures and video on his phone that I'll have to add on here later… Carter undertook the search for the perfect pumpkin oblivious to the freezing wind, and it was classic.
