Carter's preschool group took a field trip this week to Apple Ridge Orchard, and we got to tag along.

    highlights:  cats

                            hayride to the orchard

                            apple picking

                            apple eating

                            corn maze with Max

taking home an old dry ear of corn

                            hanging out with friends

                            hayride back down

It was a perfect fall day, the apples were delicious, and it was so fun we are headed back with the rest of the family next month!

Yes, she is always this happy.  These were taken as we froze at soccer practice on her big day… and of course, she was all smiles.  This little girl is such a joy to us!

    At 6 months Meg loves:

her siblings – she lights up when she sees them; her daddy, who always gets  a smile; singing "eyes, nose, cheeky cheeky chin" and "I'm so glad when daddy comes home"; the giraffe from the saucer toy; her pink bunny; her pacifier; sleeping with her hands up over her head.

she is almost sitting up, sleeping all night every once in a while (yeah, regression…), babbling, spitting, and (thank goodness) still snuggling.

  • DSC08184 I thought I'd throw in one more quick load of laundry tonight to wash while I folded the stuff that was already done…

I opened the washer to discover I'd turned Meg's brand new (as in, not a hand-me-down from Emma, only been worn once) beautiful white sweater a dingy blue (must have fallen in from my "wash separately" pile into the darks) and then found Nate's new dress pants (probably the culprit of the blue sweater) covered in gum (the only pants I didn't check the pockets of.)

I should have quit while I was ahead.

I am smiling, however, thinking about Carter today, singing "I've been working on the railroad" – he thinks that the part about Dinah says "China won't you blow, China won't you blow, China won't you blow your horn!"   It is his favorite part of the song – the part he knows really well 🙂 – and he belts it out.  It is awesome.

Now, after googling "RIT dye remover" and "how to get gum out of suit pants" I am abandoning my wet laundry and going to bed.  I'll fix it all tomorrow.

PS – I spent a good 2 minutes trying to figure out which wall in my house had such dirty walls in this picture – thank goodness I finally recognized the bikes in the background and figured out this was in the garage.

Emma is the one with the purple hood.  She was FREEZING.  I guess we all need an outfit like Meg's.  She didn't seem to mind one bit.

Carter waving to Nate's plane as it left the airport.  He was so funny about Nate being gone!  Besides "I hate it when Dad's in Philly!", he told everyone, "When I'm a dad I'm going to take my whole family when I go to Philly."  Funny little guy.

  • This is why I blog.  I was looking through my entries from when Carter was a baby for something for his preschool class and laughed my head off reading this.  If I hadn't posted it, I would have totally forgotten about it – makes me want to record more stuff.

Carter has been all about the coast guard helicopter and rescue divers lately.  We had a nice, 100* day and he spent the afternoon rescuing playmobil guys in the pool – hours and hours of fun.  And little miss Meg was fascinated with the grass!

    And they're off…

    DSC08240

Here's Emma ready to head out the door… I said to her this morning, "Emma, I can't believe you're going to be at school ALL day!  What will I do without you?"  Her reply:  "Goodbye, Mom."  She LOVES school.  And was more than excited to eat lunch in the cafeteria and spend all day there.

    DSC08242

And Zach:  here is his text to Nate about his day while we were at Emma's soccer practice (yeah, I realize he sent his first text at age 8, and I was 32…)  "Hi dad!  The first day of school was really fun!  It was fun to see all my school friends again.  Spencer didn't even notice my glasses (or so I think!)  I even met a new friend!  He's from North Dakota but I forgot his name.  Love you!"

    DSC08248

Last out the door was my little buddy Carter, future astronaut.  He ran right in to his friend Brit's house for his first day of our co-op preschool and never looked back.

It was a pretty empty house this morning – I told Meg, "It's me and you, kiddo!"  She gave me a big smile, and then fell asleep until we left to get Carter.  :)   After school we had root beer floats at our friends' houses (an annual tradition that we will miss and have to re-create when we move!) to celebrate.   And when I tucked Emma in tonight and she was telling me the best and worst parts of her day, "The best part was school, and the worst part was nothing."  Sounds like it's going to be a good year.
