• What's more American than baseball, hamburgers, cupcakes, and fireworks in the cul-de-sac?

This year, I taught the kids "You're a grand old flag" and they sing it all the time.  :)  I am so grateful to live in this great land, and especially for those who serve in our military to keep us free.

And pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.

  • We ran out of freezer jam the week before we left on vacation… luckily by the time we got back, the strawberries were ripe at our favorite berry farm.

and the jam was delicious… Carter may or may not be licking some off of his toes…

  • Not sure how it is at your house, but at our house, 3 kids playing a board game together is like a ticking time bomb.  It's fun, fun, fun… and then  KABOOM.  This one went off less than a minute after the picture… I got there just in time.

The picture's not that great, but the dad sure is.

Unfortunately, he always gets the shaft on father's day… it seems to always be one of our travel days on the way home from UT.  This year, his "present"  was to not spend most of the day driving… when we hit Omaha on Saturday night,  the kiddos had just fell asleep, so we kept on driving and got home at 4:30 am Sunday.

A really fantastic make-up fathers day will come his way when he least expects it…  a dad like this deserves it!

  • She was, on Sunday, June 12 2011.
And we have been since the day she arrived.  We all adore our little Meg.   Her blessing day was extra special, and we loved having all our family there to share it with us.

  • Nate was able to fanagle an extra day of vacation at the last minute… we sure enjoyed arriving a day earlier than planned!

This is the way we ride in the car…

all the way to Utah!   I have to say that it was the most fun 19 1/2 hours we've ever spent in the car – thanks to the binoculars, books, and the ipad.   Everyone was SO good, even Carter and Meg… it was a great beginning to a great trip!

  • not sure how we made it all year without taking pictures with the teachers… so the last day of school it was.  Zach loved Mrs. Thompson and Emma said K with Mrs. DeFrang was the best part of every day.   We have been so blessed to have wonderful teachers at Gage!

And to celebrate, Carter and I (and sleeping Meg) got Icees and went to Essex park (Carter's choice) to play.   You can't tell in the picture, but we're holding on to steering wheels… we raced, and we raced, and we raced… and Carter won every race but one.  :)

And… I love the kids running across the street off of the bus… every day it goes like this:

Emma comes off the bus.  Looks up at the bus driver until he waves her across.  Runs across the street.  Zach finally comes off the bus.  (Sometimes still trying to stuff a book or Lego magazine in his backpack…)  Looks up at the bus driver, who is still waving and waving and waiting for Zach to cross.  Tears across the street.  Looks back and gives the bus driver a very serious look and a "thumbs-up".  I couldn't wait to get a picture of the thumbs-up the last day… and it was the ONE day he didn't do it.  Go figure.
