Knowing that I was going to spend at least 3 hours after getting the kids in bed doing this for the art show…
Nate disappered to 7-11 and came back with something to get me through.
Does he know me or what? :)
Every once in a while we make it to K with enough time for Meg to get out and play with the kids before the teacher blows the whistle to start school. She thinks it's the best thing ever.
Emma and Meg dancing in the kitchen.
Emma helped Meg prepare and present her first FHE (Meg drew the picture.) SO sweet. Loved this.
Zach is great at creating fun lego games… and sometimes all 3 of them smile at once while they are playing. (Some other times at least one is crying…)
Carter checked out a book from the library with all kinds of fun (and involved) space activities… this one was to simulate craters on the moon by dropping different objects into a flour/salt/sugar mixture. Super messy, super fun. Love it when this kid gets so excited about something.
And, Jen and I went with Nate and Mike to a conference at Snowbird… I haven't laughed so hard since I can't remember when. (this is someone else's room, by the way.) Good times.
Part of Carter's homework assignment was to write the word "tree" by a picture of the tree… and as I sat listening to him sound it out he kept saying "ch… ch… what makes the "ch" sound?" I was so confused, and told him tree started with the letter T. He looked at me like I was crazy. "No, mom… CHree! CHree!" Neither of us could stop laughing because the way the other person was saying/spelling it seemed so crazy to both of us… which made it even funnier. Apparently truck is chruck as well. Perhaps I need to enunciate? :)
Although there were moments (like trying to make it down the little hill to the lift the first time) that I wondered if we were crazy, Nate had more faith in all of us and we had a wonderful time night skiing for the kids' first time skiing (and my first time in I don't know how many years!)
Both of the big kids caught on quickly and had a great time; and little Carter with his edgie wedgie would just fly down the hill! Every time I was sure he would crash but he could both steer and stop – and I couldn't catch him down the hill if I tried.
By the end of the night we were cold and tired (I really thought Carter was going to fall asleep on the lift!) but happy. I see many more ski trips in our future!
End of February trip to the zoo with the littles:
A quick after-school trip to the planetarium to see a NASA exhibit on the new rocket that was there for a couple of days:
(They printed out these cool pics of the kids that they just loved.)
Emma and Meg have been best buddies at church lately – which is so fun for Meg, so cute of Emma, and so nice for me! I had to drop Meg off at the corner to walk home with Emma this week:
Carter took Meg and I on a morning of space missions (parts of this shuttle are from the original one from years ago!)
Emma dissected owl pellets at school – so cool, and so gross.
Zach opened up his own checking account (driven by a free Jazz backpack promotion… that's my boy. 🙂
And Meg insists on only wearing "flower pants" (hand-me-downs we got for Emma from Zach's friends' older sister 6 years ago) and long sleeved shirts. This particular day she was so angry that I put her in jeans and this cute shirt after an accident that it ruined her whole afternoon. I made her smile for a picture before I gave in and let her pick something old and ugly and unmatched. Funny girl!
Nate knows how to build a serious fort! In the middle of the fort building, I kept hearing things in the garage that made me poke my head in there wondering what on earth was going on – and every time he would say, "Don't question my methods." 🙂
And we had a fun family night going out for pizza and bowling!
Everyone is glad when Dad is home!
