• I haven't posted anything we've done since Christmas – so scroll down periodically – I am trying to catch up but am posting with old dates to keep things in order  in case I ever print this out.

  • DSC02187On good days when Zach's at school and Carter takes a nap and she gets to choose what just the two of us do together… it's almost always a game.  This was the fourth this afternoon.  I love my game girl!

  • DSC02186Same place it always is… clean but not folded on top of our work table in the laundry room.  I have to give Nate a heads-up when it's actually put away so he can look for clothes in his drawers instead.

  • DSC02179We are all about the military at our house.  This night, Zach got Emma all geared up to go out in the freezing cold and watch for the "bad guys".  They were serious about it – and the only way I could get them in for bedtime was trying to convince them that in the real military they switch out the guards so they can take turns sleeping.  We feel very safe with our little GI's.

  • DSC02169It was a good car.  It was often talked about and much appreciated – and during our entire time with it, it never lived up to it's name – although it gave Nate a couple of scares, it never left him stranded.  After limping home with no suspension one winter day, however, it's repairs exceeded it's worth (by a significant margin).  We parted with it with a few tears (mine) a little sadness (all of ours), and a lot of gratitude (thanks, Dad).    Try as we might, we'll never find another car to fit it's customized dash cover.

We love Carter.  He does not sleep well at night.  At all.  Regardless of my attempts to fix it.  He is screaming right now after only being asleep for 20 minutes.  We still love Carter.  We do hope he eventually learns to sleep.    (He is so cute, though, even in the middle of the night…)

Until Carter pulled out a chunk of his hair.  I'm not kidding… a CHUNK.  And then I couldn't get all the hair out from between his chubby fingers.  The poor kid doesn't want Carter to get anywhere near him anymore… but Carter thinks he's just great!

Yep, it's true. He's six.  And we're pretty sure he'll remember his 6th birthday for at least one of the following reasons:

1 – He woke up at 1 am ready to open presents saying "You can wake up whenever you want on your birthday"
2 – School was cancelled due to -45* wind chills (and Zach had planned to take ICE CREAM for his special snack)
3 – He had an aircraft carrier birthday cake that he helped design himself
4 – He built his new Lego sets all by himself
5 – He spent the afternoon getting a throat culture instead of having his buddy over to play (in the -45* his  mom hoped to avoid going out in)
6 – He had his friends over a few days later to play military and watch Top Gun (on the portable DVD player since Mom couldn't figure out the big one – luckily noone seemed to mind.)
7 – When blowing out the candles on his cupcakes, he wanted his friends to sing, "Happy birthday, dear Maverick…"
8 – Following the cupcakes, he licked the toilet in our basement after one of said friends told a story about a cousin doing it – and Zach apparently wanted (and got) quite the reaction (thankfully the toilet had just been scrubbed.)

At the little party, I overheard him say to a friend, "are you feeling left out or not having very much fun?  What would YOU like to do?" and was so, so proud of my big, kind, smart, six year old boy.  We love you, Zach!  DSC02138DSC02152DSC02163

Watch out, world… here he comes!

  • Can computers be lemons?  If so, ours is.  It just had it's annual meltdown, giving me an actual excuse this time for not posting.  The good news is, it has had so many meltdowns that even though the warranty plan is expired, Nate convinced them to fix it for free.  I guess that's the lemonade.
