• Dsc00671There is just something about a sleeping baby that makes it almost impossible for me to put them down… no matter how tired I am and even at 4 am I love to watch the cute faces they make and enjoy the sweet newborn-ness that they grow out of so quickly! So the truth is – I choose to be tired! And it’s worth it.

  • Zach has outgrown our backyard for baseball – he consistently has been hitting balls off his tee over the fence. And of course, out of 3 yards he can hit into, it’s consistently the fenced one with the dogs that no one is ever home at. So today with no dogs in sight Nate hopped the fence to grab a ball… only to look up and see the big dog staring him down (and then chasing him barking like crazy). You should have seen him scramble up and over the fence… you’d never believe he was 30! It was enough that he said later, “That’s the last time I pickle the beast!” (and if you’ve never seen Sandlot, you should.)

  • Dsc00532We were lucky enough to have Nate’s parents come the day after my mom left… giving us less than 24 hours to try parenting 3 children on our own. It has been fun for Zach and Emma to get so much extra attention in the wake of Carter’s arrival! The grandparents managed to bring great weather with them – the best Rochester has seen since fall! We were able to get some projects done with their help and even got rid of the blue sponge paint in our bathroom (Finally!). And, of course, we played a lot of baseball. (Well, not, me – but everyone else!) We were sad to see them go but at least Nate is still on vacation till Monday – when it’s 3 v. 1 and we’ll see how I really do.

  • Dsc00551We’ve been waiting and watching and checking daily on our “green things” – the daffodil bulbs we planted last fall. And finally… it’s spring!!

  • Dsc00421_2So amid the chaos of baby #3, I decided to sign Emma up for a dance class. They were only offering it during April-May and not again until fall, and since Zach gets to do soccer and t-ball this summer it only seemed fair to sign her up and make it work. So we went to get ballet shoes – such a fun purchase for me – and apparently for her, too. This is how I found her after sending her to get her jammies on after the tub… priceless.

Dsc00482…who arrived the day we came home from the hospital with Carter and stayed for a week… doing all of my work and making sure the kids had plenty of attention and that I got plenty of rest. I think we sent her home exhausted! She played baseball and don’t break the ice from dawn until dusk – sometimes before dawn even when little feet would run down the stairs and little hands would knock on her door while I slept! We are pretty lucky… thanks, Mom!

Here’s the newest addition to the Adams family! Carter Craig Adams was born early Thursday April 10th, keeping up a family tradition of arriving several weeks early and right before a big exam. He was 7 lbs 3 oz and 20 inches long, and we are sure glad he’s here! Zach and Emma love him and love to give him his pacifier and his cat. We are looking forward to all the adventures that come along with a newborn and hope Carter knows what he’s in for joining our family! Dsc00442_2 Dsc00427_2

  • Dsc00404_2The kids were thrilled this week to have rain instead of snow… they put on their rain boots, stomped in the puddles, and got out Zach’s “mousetrap” that Nate made with him last fall… they had no bait and they are a little close to the trap but by this point they were already pretty wet and cold so I think they weren’t venturing far out of the shelter of the garage to set it up. It all looks very official, doesn’t it… Emma is watching for signs of any rodent crazy enough to be out in the pouring rain and Zach is ready to pull the string at her word. It was the highlight of the day for both of them! (Good thing we got out early to enjoy the rain because by mid-morning it had turned to snow!)

  • The before (Zach having a mini-baseball game since you can finally see grass in the backyard and wearing his twins jersey even though it was FREEZING) and the after (after Emma had an untimely run-in with the metal bat.) Thank goodness for the live-in facial surgeon to reassure me nothing was broken!) I guess you’ve got to have your first black eye sometime! Dsc00393

  • Dsc00376The last month or two Emma has been seeming so much older… so the birthday didn’t seem as much of a shock as it usually does for me! Really, though, she has been so much more independent… potty trained… playing so nicely with Zach… just seeming like a preschooler rather than a toddler. Anyways, she had a great birthday. She opened her presents like a machine in the morning… instead of lingering over any of them she’d open it, be excited, and then “this one next…” she finished in plenty of time for Nate to see it all before he had to leave for work. When I asked her what her favorite parts of her birthday were throughout the day, this is what she included:
her “birthday chair” (chair with ribbon and ballons)
    her birthday sign
    helping make her birthday cake
having her little neighbor friend over (they played ring around the rosie over and over… Emma’s favorite)
    having soda for dinner
Funny girl – even though she enjoyed all her presents, she didn’t mention any of them! But she did sing happy birthday to herself all day long and blew out her candles over and over (starting at lunchtime) and seemed to really enjoy having a day that was all about her. (Zach on the other hand told me that the next time we have a girl birthday at our house he is going to Henry’s ALL DAY LONG.)
    Happy birthday, Princess Emma!
