The last month or two Emma has been seeming so much older… so the birthday didn’t seem as much of a shock as it usually does for me! Really, though, she has been so much more independent… potty trained… playing so nicely with Zach… just seeming like a preschooler rather than a toddler. Anyways, she had a great birthday. She opened her presents like a machine in the morning… instead of lingering over any of them she’d open it, be excited, and then “this one next…” she finished in plenty of time for Nate to see it all before he had to leave for work. When I asked her what her favorite parts of her birthday were throughout the day, this is what she included:
her “birthday chair” (chair with ribbon and ballons)
her birthday sign
helping make her birthday cake
having her little neighbor friend over (they played ring around the rosie over and over… Emma’s favorite)
having soda for dinner
Funny girl – even though she enjoyed all her presents, she didn’t mention any of them! But she did sing happy birthday to herself all day long and blew out her candles over and over (starting at lunchtime) and seemed to really enjoy having a day that was all about her. (Zach on the other hand told me that the next time we have a girl birthday at our house he is going to Henry’s ALL DAY LONG.)
