At least half of the day was spent doing this:
When Meg went to take a nap, Emma and Carter spent the afternoon creating a "Chalk Museum", which both Nate and I were lucky enough to take a tour of. (My tour even included a demonstration.)
In true Adams fashion, we started the holiday by celebrating "Father's Day Eve" with lunch and a baseball game at the park where Nate and I spent many hours the summer we were dating. Baseball is an Adams family pasttime and it was the perfect way to celebrate Nate's great dad.
Since these grandparents were unavailable on the school Grandparent Day, they had given the kids gift cards for a lunch out when summer started.
It was a bonus that we got to plant our little garden plot at their house afterwards, and Emma even got to drive "Bob".
Since our playset takes the only great sunny spot in our backyard, we are grateful for the place for a garden! I have high hopes that these kiddos will at least try all of the things we are growing!
Because it is summer, and so when Zach asked if he could come with me on my late-night trip to the store, Nate said "sure, why not!" and so he did.
Let's just say going to the store with a 10 year old is quite a different experience than going with any number of his younger siblings. We had a great time. So much that I didn't even need to eat half a bag of chocolate chips when I got home as a "survival prize". :)
(not sure why I took this picture last week… but I'm sure there was a good reason behind it!)
My fun sis-in-laws had the idea to do a few "cousin days" this summer – we spent the first one at Amber's making a father's day present, and playing outside in the water on a super hot day! (You can't tell from this picture but there was a big fat battle over who would hold that Father's day book…)
It's always so fun to get together with these ladies (although we have been missing the Carribbean Adams!) – Nate's brothers picked well. :)
We had all been looking forward to our first Bees game of the season – and it was everything we hoped it would be.
Meg was completely entertained by the bee mascot,
Emma got plenty of soda (drank in the way that saves us from spilling the entire thing like at the game last year…),
Carter loved the game, and Nate and Zach were having so much fun they didn't even mind me taking a picture. (and apparently also having so much fun they couldn't even look at the camera for the picture.)
If that wasn't enough, the weather was perfect, the Bees won, AND we got to sit on the field for an awesome fireworks show! Such a fun night!
The first day of summer was a busy one…
trip to the zoo to check out the Lego animals they have on display for the summer
(this adventure ended abruptly because poor Meg came down with a fever mid-trip and we took her home for a nap)
Emma and Carter dropped their stuffed animals off at the library for a storytime and stuffed animal campout (when they picked them up the next morning they had some fun photos of the animals' adventures the night before!)
And after searching around, we found a 7-11 that still had donuts to celebrate National Donut Day. (It is dangerous to listen to the radio sometimes, I tell you!)
The last day of school went something like this:
We spent a [very long for the little ones] hour at the awards assembly at the school – both kids' teachers had secretly invited me, and it was fun to see them surprised and excited about their awards. Emma was chosen as a community of caring student of the year (she has had lots of chances in her class this year to be an extra kind friend and really was awesome!) and Zach won the math olympiad for his grade, which yielded quite the trophy. He unexpectedly stopped to high five me on his way up to get the trophy, which made the whole crazy hour worth the wait. :)
Afterwards, I took the littles to the splashpad to reward them for their great behavior. I love watching Carter stand under the bucket to get soaked, and then run away with the biggest smile every time.
Meg on the other hand is content to stomp and play in the water that collects by the drain. :)
After we picked up the kids, Zach informed us he was supposed to go to an end-of-school swimming party at a friends', leading me to take everyone else swimming to make it "fair."
And when Nate came home, we ended the crazy day with ice cream. It was a good year, and a fun day of celebrating the end of it!
